Yup, Apple embeds some information about the buyer in its brand new iTunes Plus DRM-free files.
Everybody seems to think this is an awful thing to do, a lot of people are whining about this all over the Internet, but why?
What are they complaining about? That the files they buy for themselves, stored securely on their own computer contain their own name? Wow, talk about a breach of security! A really lame thing to do indeed!
Okay, okay, I’m not that dumb, I know what people are really complaining about, they don’t want to have files out there on the Internet with their name on it.
So let’s say it one more time: it is illegal to share with anyone on the Internet the files you have purchased. And if the files you have purchased have been distributed that way, you are legally responsible for it.
I really don’t see how those files you purchased, that are stored on your machine (that hopefully is protected with a good password) would find their way on the Internet without you wanting it. If you’re sharing those files, that’s your problem, and not Apple’s fault.
I like this blog post from Will Shipley, it really puts things in proper perspective.
